Savant Syndrome
People with Savant Syndrome have an IQ score below the average on IQ tests but have a specific field in which theory excels in beyond average are normal.
Misconception: Savants excel in verbal intelligence they are typically below the average of verbal intelligence but excel in visual intelligence.
Intellectual Disabilities
People with Intellectual Disabilities have a severe limitation in two of the following areas. The areas include safety, leisure, academic skills, social skills, home living, self-care, or communication. Two causes of Intellectual disabilities are the following:
Organic Disabilities- Arises from genetic problems or damage to the brain.
Cultural-Familial Disabilities- This is when there are no signs of organic disabilities but they live in an impoverished environment.
There are three levels of intellectual disabilities.
Mild Mental Disability- IQ from 50-70. When given the proper tools to succeed they can learn to function as self-serving society members.
Moderate Mental Disabilities- IQ from 35 -55. They are not as independent as the mild group but they can learn skills and be partially independent.
Severe/ Profound Mental Disabilities- IQ from 20-40. They can learn basic skills but will have to be supervised their entire lives.
Giftedness- Moderately Gifted- IQ score from 130-150.
Profoundly Gifted- IQ from 180+.
Those who are gifted tend to be bored by regular settings.
Problems faced include- Loneliness, social problems, boredom, being introverted, and emotional problems.
